"I have spent almost 50 years of my life pursuing my dream of starting and growing Proforma," Muzzillo said. "Together with many great people, I have achieved my dreams far beyond what I could have ever imagined back in 1978 when Proforma was just a startup business with nothing more than a dining room table, an answering machine and some stationery."
Vera Muzzillo will continue on as CEO of the company. The married couple were jointly named Counselor Person of the Year in 2010. Proforma and Muzzillo have earned several notable honors throughout his nearly five decades of leadership, including multiple appearances on Counselor’s Best Places to Work list and Muzzillo being named as one of the most influential figures in the history of the promo products industry in Counselor’s 50th anniversary issue.
Muzzillo founded Proforma in 1978 after graduating college the previous year, and grew it into an exceptionally successful company. According to Proforma, four years into its founding, the company had reached $1 million in sales and was named in successive years to Inc. Magazine’s 500 Fastest Growing Companies. In 1986, Proforma adopted a franchising model, and in 1994, it added promotional products to its service offerings, expanding beyond print products.
Proforma ranked fifth on Counselor’s most recent list of the largest distributors in the industry based on reported 2023 North American promotional products revenue of $638 million. The new ranking based on 2024 revenue will be released in two weeks at ASI Show Chicago. Proforma was also named a Print & Promo Marketing Top Print Distributor in 2024.
