Ocean Bottle Funds Collection of 1 Billion Plastic Bottles
The supplier said its efforts have prevented 28.1 million pounds of plastic from reaching the world’s oceans.
Ocean Bottle (asi/74713), a supplier of reusable drinkware, has reached a “billion bottle milestone.”
The U.K.-headquartered company said it has funded the collection of 28.1 million pounds of plastic from the world’s oceans – the equivalent of over 1 billion plastic bottles by weight. According to Ocean Bottle, the collected plastic bottles would circle the Earth approximately five times, to put the numbers in perspective.
For every Ocean Bottle purchased, the company funds the collection of 1,000 bottles’ worth of ocean-bound plastic.
“We still have a long way to go, but this accomplishment is a testament to the power of collective action and the support from all our partners and our community,” said Will Pearson, founder and co-CEO at Ocean Bottle. “Together, we are making a tangible difference and are now one step closer to protecting our oceans for future generations,”
Ocean Bottle works with three plastic collection partners in global areas with rampant pollution that collect plastic in rivers and coastal waterways before it enters the ocean. Individuals can also join the efforts; more than 20,000 people are involved in plastic collection, according to the company.
The firm also states that merchandise and B2B collaborations account for 85% of its impact. In February, Top 40 supplier Goldstar (asi/73295) announced a partnership with Ocean Bottle to offer its drinkware made of recycled materials to the promo industry.
By 2025, Ocean Bottle said it intends to collect the equivalent of 7 billion plastic bottles, or 176 million pounds of ocean-bound plastic.
