Thanks to tireless efforts to raise Stahls’ profile around the globe – while also helping to spur a cross-industry conversation on print-on-demand technology – Carleen Gray rises eight spots on this year’s Counselor Power 50 list.

Gray, who became CEO of the 93-year-old family company in 2018, was named the Counselor 2025 International Person of the Year due in part to her efforts to update Stahls’ reputation from being just “the letters-and-numbers people” to a global powerhouse serving clients in more than 100 countries.

A fixture on Stahls’ marketing team for decades before taking over the top spot at the company, Gray is no stranger to brand strategy, and her peers have called her a “true visionary” at unifying and modernizing the Stahls’ brand – while still maintaining its nearly century-old heritage.

Gray’s global community-building efforts extend beyond her own company. She participated in a panel of promo pros at this year’s Global Executive Network conference in Lisbon. And her involvement with the GXN Women’s Leadership Committee contributed to a significant increase in female attendance at the international promo and print conference in recent years.

Under Gray’s leadership, Stahls’ acquired print-on-demand platform Fulfill Engine in 2023, hosted a print-on-demand conference in February 2025 and opened a print-on-demand-focused innovation center and fulfillment hub in Greater Detroit this fall. “The best way to predict the future is to invent it,” Gray said at the grand opening of Stahls’ Fulfill One. “That’s what we’re doing here.”
