David and Todd Schneiderman of Counselor Top 40 distributor Something Inked (asi/329822) continue to do things their own way. “Over the past year, our most notable accomplishments have been our ability to pivot on a dime in everything we do,” says Todd.

Being a company whose primary customer base is in live events like sports and entertainment, Something Inked’s business is at the mercy of schedules and seasons. “We might have a ton of work one month and less the next based on tours, teams winning, wrestling events, you name it,” says Todd. “So our ability to continue to evolve into other avenues and continue to maintain, then grow, our business has been huge for us.”

That growth includes a 20% increase in sales revenue last year. As part of its expansion, Schneiderman singles out the launch of its new licensing division at a time when licensing, namely in college sports, is even bigger than ever.

“It’s been extremely difficult,” he says. “And in just seven months we have already beat the odds in what we have done.”

With its licensing in the sports world with professional leagues, Something Inked is hoping to have another hall-of-fame year next year. To get there, the father-and-son team along with the rest of Something Inked are putting a lot of effort behind the company’s SI Originals line that distributes licensed apparel for over 80 schools to college bookstores and retailers across the company.

“Keep breaking records, continue to do things everyone tells us cannot be done and most of all pivot on a dime for what is needed to stay relevant in the marketplace,” Schneiderman says. “For our company, it’s to continue that underdog, chip-on-our-shoulder mentality while growing our name in the industry as best-in-class production, and most of all as humans. Something Inked is a family. It’s a family for our clients, vendors, employees and their families. The love and support is unreal.”
