Fingertip Amputation Prompts Recall of More Than 1M Igloo Coolers
The Katy, TX-headquartered company issued the recall in conjunction with product safety officials for its 90-quart rolling coolers.
Key Takeaways
• Recalled: Igloo Products Corp. recalled over 1 million 90-quart rolling coolers due to reports of fingertip injuries, including amputations.
• Industry Connection: The recall affects approximately 45 models, including at least one that may have been for sale in promo.
• Remedy: Consumers should stop using the coolers and contact Igloo for a free replacement of the handle that can cause injury.
Igloo Products Corp., in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recalled more than 1 million of its 90-quart flip-and-tow rolling coolers after fielding 12 reports that the models caused fingertip injuries, including amputations, bone fractures and lacerations.
A review of the affected products indicates that at least one of the approximately 45 models named in the recall may have been for sale in promo. That’s the Igloo Maxcold Latitude 90 Quart Roller Cooler (34547) from BamBams (asi/38228).
The recalled Igloo 90 Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler with a carbonite body and Aegean Sea lid is among the approximately 45 models covered by the recall. Review all recalled models here.
Still, it should be stated that the CPSC notice indicates that models affected by the recall were manufactured prior to January 2024. It wasn’t clear if the Igloo Maxcold Latitude 90 Quart Roller Coolers currently for sale in promo were manufactured before then or after. ASI Media has reached out to the supplier for clarification.
Counselor Top 40 supplier Gemline (asi/56070) also carries Igloo coolers. The supplier told ASI Media that it does not carry, nor has it ever carried, models named in the recall.
According to the CPSC, 1,060,000 of the coolers sold in the United States, while another 47,000 made it to market in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico. The issue, safety officials said, is that the tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the coolers, which can lead to amputation and crushing hazards.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled coolers and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle,” the CPSC said.
Made in the USA, the coolers retailed at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s and other stores nationwide. Igloo also sold them online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com and other websites from January 2019 through January 2025 for between $80 and $140, the CPSC said.
Any promo distributors that may have sourced 90-quart Igloo coolers during the specified time, whether from traditional industry sources or elsewhere, may want to consider looking into the recall.
According to product safety officials, the date of manufacture is imprinted on the bottom of each cooler in a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year of manufacture inside the circle.

“IGLOO” is printed on the side of the coolers. The coolers were sold in multiple body and lid color combinations. The model number appears on labels affixed to the bottom of the cooler. See all model numbers here.
Those with concerns about the coolers can contact Igloo toll free at 888-943-5182 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email Igloo at igloo90qt@sedgwick.com, or go online at www.igloo90qtrecall.expertinquiry.com to learn more.
Igloo has made some unwanted headlines of late. A New York resident last month filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Igloo, accusing the cooler maker of making false sustainability and Made-in-the-USA claims in the marketing and labeling of certain products. Promo suppliers sell at least some of the cooler products named in the complaint, but no industry firms are named in the suit or accused of wrongdoing. The case is in its early stages.
