Former BamBams Exec Brings Plant-Based Plastic Drinkware to Promo

Ben Taylor partnered with a former bar owner to create a line of Made-in-the-USA unbreakable barware.

Key Takeaways

Sustainable Drinkware: Symglass (asi/90446) offers durable, plant-based plastic drinkware made in the USA, which the company says provides a premium eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastics.

Strategic Leadership: The new supplier is led by industry veteran Ben Taylor. He partnered with serial entrepreneur Quinn O’Sullivan, who has experience in the hospitality and beverage sectors.

A new industry supplier is taking a cue from nature for its product line.

Symglass (asi/90446) offers durable custom drinkware made in the USA from a glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate derived from plants, which the company calls a sustainable, yet premium, alternative to single-use plastics.

Ben Taylor, former chief marketing officer of BamBams (asi/38228) and previously head of U.S. product sales and go-to-market programs at Amazon, partnered with Symglass CEO Quinn O’Sullivan on the new venture. O’Sullivan, who owned a bar in Nashville, is a serial entrepreneur in the hospitality and beverage sectors who has built and excited multiple businesses.

Taylor, the chief operating officer of Symglass, noted that the time was right for the product with end-buyers and corporate brands “demanding higher-quality, sustainable solutions that align with their values.”

He added: “We’re bringing a premium American-made drinkware option to the industry – one that’s not only unbreakable, but also better for the planet.”

Symglass products use a proprietary injection molding process that gives them the look and feel of glass while being virtually indestructible, executives said.

The products are BPA- and BPS-free. Ecozen, the bio-based plastic resin they’re made from, is recyclable and partially biodegradable, according to Symglass. Also: Ecozen, derived from renewable plant-based materials, has a production process with a smaller environmental footprint than alternatives and helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels, the supplier said.

“Our mission is simple – to redefine drinkware with premium sustainable solutions that last a lifetime,” said O’Sullivan. “Expanding into the promotional products market allows us to partner with brands that share our vision of sustainability without sacrificing style or durability.”

Symglass is venture-backed by New York-based strategic advisory firm Gelband & Company’s special purpose vehicle. The funding, secured in fall 2024, helped the supplier accelerate growth and expand into new markets, including the promo industry.

A confluence of factors have led some in the promo industry to speculate that 2025 and the next few years ahead will see a growing demand for Made-in-the-USA goods. Symglass executives believe their product is well-poised to meet that trend.
