Key Takeaways
• Minnesota-based Beacon Promotions, a subsidiary of Counselor Top 40 supplier HPG (asi/61966), has issued a voluntary recall of repackaged promotional M&M’s in 20 states after the FDA found the products contained undeclared allergens (milk, soy and peanuts). The FDA classified the action as a Class II recall.
• The recall affects two 1.3-oz. repackaged M&M’s items tied to specific lots and best-by dates, totaling more than 6,300 units and impacting branded promotional candies for 29 end-buyers.
• Beacon corrected and received FDA approval for updated labeling, and the products are available for repurchase, though the recall remains listed as ongoing. Distributors have been instructed to notify recipients to quarantine and return or destroy affected products.
Minnesota-based supplier Beacon Promotions, a subsidiary of Counselor Top 40 supplier HPG (asi/61966) has initiated a product recall on repackaged promotional M&M’s in 20 states, according to an online enforcement report from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recalled products contain undeclared allergens including milk, soy and peanuts.
The items were classified by the FDA as a Class II recall, the second-highest risk level, meaning exposure “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the federal agency. Other major M&M’s suppliers in the promo industry have not been impacted by the recalls. Counselor Top 40 supplier NC Custom (asi/44900), an approved co-packer of M&M’s products, confirmed that it did not package any of the recalled items.
The recall applies to the following items:
- Repackaged M&M’s Peanut candies, Net Wt 1.3 oz. Item BB471BG. Labeled as Make Your Mark with lot M1823200 and a best-by date of April 30, 2026 (541 units)
- Repackaged M&M’s candies, Net Wt 1.3 oz. Item BB458BG (5,788 units). Lots include L450ARCLV03 (12/1/2025), L502FLHKP01 (1/1/2026), L523CMHKP01 (6/30/2026) and L537GMHKP01 (9/1/2026)
According to a spokesperson from HPG, the recall was first discovered during an FDA inspection on Jan. 21, 2026. Beacon was informed that the packaging of the products in question required a label indicating that they may contain peanuts. Beacon then sent a voluntary recall letter to the distributors who had ordered these items. According to the spokesperson, the labeling on the two items included in the recall has already been corrected, approved by the FDA and the product is available for repurchase. However, the recall is still listed as “ongoing” by the FDA. The supplier also noted that its jarred M&M’s meet the FDA’s labeling requirements and were not part of the recall.
The items have been recalled in the following states: AL, AZ, CA, FL, IA, KS, KY, MA, MD, MN, NC, NY, OH, PA, SD, TN, TX, VA, WA and WI. They apply to branded M&M’s from 29 end-buyers, including companies like Subaru, Dropbox, Best Western and various colleges and universities. The full list of brands whose promotional M&M’s have been impacted is available in the online report. Nutrition facts and ingredients can be found on HPG’s website.
According to the formal recall letter, distributors of Beacon’s recalled items should notify end-recipients to immediately quarantine, then return or destroy the recalled products.
