Subject to a federal recall, a defective blender that has injured consumers was offered for sale both at retail and in the promotional products industry.

Designed in California and made in China, the BlendJet 2 portable blenders can overheat or catch fire, and the blades can break off, posing burn and laceration hazards to users.

Nearly 5 million BlendJet 2 portable blenders have been recalled.

Some people were hurt. The provider of the product, BlendJet Inc. of Benicia, CA, has received nearly 50 reports of minor burns and one report of a laceration injury.

In addition, there have been 329 reports of blades breaking while the blender is in use and 17 known incidents of overheating or fires that have resulted in property damage claims of about $150,000, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

In all, about 4.8 million BlendJet 2 blenders that sold in the United States – and about 117,000 in Canada – between October 2020 and November 2023 are under CPSC recall. BlendJet cooperated with the CPSC and said it undertook the recall voluntarily.

Promo Connection

The defective blenders retailed at Costco, Walmart, Target and other stores nationwide, as well as at BlendJet.com. Texas-based VisionUSA (asi/80060) was among the promo suppliers that has offered BlendJet 2s to the industry.

The promo firm issued a statement saying that it was partnering with BlendJet Inc. to support the recall effort by notifying customers about the BlendJet 2 issues. It encouraged buyers to check if the particular item they bought might be impacted.

Concerned buyers can use the “Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?” tool located at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall. They can also call BlendJet toll free at 844-334-0562.

The recalled BlendJet 2 blenders came in a variety of colors and designs. Serial numbers are printed on the bottom of the base along with “blendjet2” and “The Original Portable Blender.” The blenders measure approximately 9.5 inches in height and 3 inches in width and weigh approximately 1.5 pounds. Units where the first four digits of the serial number are between 5201 and 5542 may be subject to the recall.

Other suppliers have offered BlendJet 2 blenders for sale in the promo industry, too, though it wasn’t certain the degree to which any of those products might be defective/under recall. Houston, TX-headquartered Hirsch (asi/61005) carries BlendJet 2s. The firm told ASI Media there are no issues with its stock.

“We are aware of the recall, but it doesn’t apply to what we have sold, which are post-recall batches and were not affected,” said company President Peter Hirsch.

In its statement, Vision USA said: “The safety of our customers is our top priority, and we are committed to providing the necessary information and support during this recall process. If you discover that your BlendJet 2 is part of the recall, please follow BlendJet’s instructions on their website to facilitate the return and replacement process or contact compliance@vision1usa.com.”

“We will continue,” VisionUSA added, “to work closely with BlendJet to resolve this matter swiftly and efficiently.”

BlendJet Inc. has said this is its first recall and that post-recall date BlendJet 2 blenders are not affected.
