David Geiger Named General Counsel At Geiger
David represents the fifth generation of Geigers to work at the family-owned Top 40 distributorship that bears the family name.
Top 40 distributor Geiger (asi/202900) will have a fifth-generation of the Geiger family serving as general counsel. The Lewiston, ME-based distributorship announced Monday that David Geiger, a recent graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, will be taking on the solicitor’s role. “Proud to be a member of Geiger family Gen 5, my job now is to support the great people of Geiger Nation and make ours an even stronger company,” David Geiger said in a statement.
While his law degree is newly minted, Geiger isn’t green when it comes to the family business or the promotional products industry. After studying business management, law and entrepreneurship at the University of Southern California, Geiger worked for about four years (2011-2015) as a compliance manager at the family-owned firm. Even before that, Geiger worked, during breaks from USC schooling, in the manufacturing engineering services side of the distributorship.
“I am so happy to be back at work, especially during this period of Geiger leadership and industry transition,” said David Geiger. “There’s so much to learn, but I’m excited to have the opportunity to support our company’s domestic and international growth and to oversee our compliance efforts.”
As general counsel, Geiger will ensure the distributorship that bears his last name complies with global laws and regulations. He will also handle a variety of corporate law matters, assist in drafting and negotiating agreements, and participate in the strategic growth of the company as part of the mergers and acquisitions team.
Geiger’s appointment to general counsel comes at an active time for the Top 40 firm. The distributorship recently announced that industry veteran and long-time Geiger executive Jo-an Lantz, currently chief operating officer, will be taking over as president in January. The Maine-based company also made a recent acquisition, buying Bank Express/Promo Warehouse in a deal revealed last week. In March, Geiger expanded its international footprint by acquiring a U.K.-based distributor.
With reported 2017 North American promotional product revenue of $185.5 million, Geiger ranked 10th on Counselor’s latest list of the largest distributors in the industry. CEO Gene Geiger was the 2018 recipient of Counselor’s Marvin Spike Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor earned for his decades of leadership at the firm and in the broader promo industry.
