Decorating Roundup: Epson Announces First Direct-to-Film Printer
Also, International Coatings releases a reformulated Legacy White, and Stahls’ offers its downloadable 2025 catalog.
Key Takeaways
• Breaking Into DTF: Epson has launched its first wide-format direct-to-film printer, the SureColor G6070, designed to meet the needs of garment decorators.
• New & Improved: International Coatings has introduced Legacy White 2.0, a reformulated screen-printing ink with a creamier consistency, smoother hand and superior on-screen performance.
• 2025 Outlook: Stahls’ (asi/88984) has released its downloadable 2025 catalog, providing comprehensive information on heat-printing technology.
• Natural Extension: Roland DGA has introduced optional extension tables for its TrueVIS LG series of large-format UV printers/cutters.
Epson is breaking into the popular direct-to-film (DTF) market with a new purpose-built printer, which the company said is “designed to address the wants and needs of garment decorators looking for a versatile solution to embellish a wide variety of materials in an efficient manner with minimal cost.”
Previously, Epson had offered hybrid direct-to-garment/DTF printers, but the new SureColor G6070 is its first wide-format DTF printer.
“Many print service providers are already using [DTF] in their shops yet are spending much of their resources maintaining their equipment, rather than growing their business,” said Andreas Goehring, director of professional imaging at Epson America. “No matter what market we enter, Epson strives to bring reliability, accessibility and print quality to customers, and that is no different with the SureColor G6070.”
The compact printer features a front-loading media design and supports a 35.4-inch print width to fit more transfers per roll and enable the production of oversized graphics. Special features include a PrecisionCore Micro TFP printhead with nozzle verification technology and UltraChrome DF inks that ensure vibrant colors and crisp, detailed clarity.
Epson also includes an automated maintenance system and fabric printhead wiper cleaning system so that distributors and decorators don’t have to constantly monitor their machines. According to the company, the SureColor G6070 requires just a few minutes of upkeep per week to keep it running smoothly.
International Coatings Releases Reformulated ‘Legacy White’
Legacy White just got a little better. That’s according to Cerritos, CA-based screen-printing ink maker International Coatings Co., which is introducing a newly reformulated Legacy White 7014, which it says offers a creamier consistency, smoother hand and superior on-screen performance.
Legacy White 2.0, as they’re calling it, is part of the company’s FlexCure line, meaning it can be cured across a range of temperatures – from 300 to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s low-cure, low-bleed properties help stem dye migration on cotton/poly blends as well as on most polyester substrates. The company adds that it offers superior bleed resistance, fast flash, excellent opacity and a matte finish.
“Legacy White 7014 has long been one of our most popular selling products,” said Mark Brouillard, product manager for International Coatings. “We have upped Legacy White’s already-superior performance characteristics to meet the evolving needs of the market and our printer community – hence Legacy White 2.0.”

Roland DGA Offers New Extension Tables for UV Printer/Cutters
Roland DGA, a provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, has announced that its TrueVIS LG series large-format UV printer/cutters now support an optional ET service extension table – designed to enable printing on up to B0-size paperboard for packaging prototypes.
The dedicated table units attach to the TrueVIS LG-640, LG-540 or LG-300 models, allowing for prototyping and mock-up production of folding cartons ranging from smaller packages for items such as food, medicine and cosmetics to larger items like liquor bottles, home appliances and toys. The extension tables help streamline the operator’s workflow by making it easier and more cost-efficient to perform multiple design iterations when creating folding carton packaging with LG Series devices.
“When it comes to packaging, rapidly changing consumer needs and demands are requiring faster product development,” said Philip Chu, Roland DGA’s UV printer product manager. “Our LG Series printer/cutters are built to provide not only superior image quality but also unsurpassed productivity. The new extension tables further enhance the capabilities of these advanced UV inkjets, increasing efficiency, optimizing ease of use and reducing overall production costs.”
