Key Takeaways

Eagan, MN-based supplier Storm Creek (asi/89879) is adding a dollop of comfort to its lineup of sustainable lifestyle apparel.
The quarter zip, crewneck and pants in the company’s new Comfort Zone Collection are designed with a mix of rPET (recycled polyester), Lenzing modal rayon and spandex.
“Everyone who feels this fabric in person falls in love with it,” said Storm Creek President Doug Jackson. “It’s velvety to the touch, but really cooling on the skin. I have been lucky enough to wear our samples for the past few months, and it has quickly become my most worn item.”
Storm Creek notes that its women’s Comfort Zone crew (2875), for example, upcycles an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles per garment. Lenzing modal is a fiber made from sustainably managed beechwood forests. The eco-friendly material is produced using a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents, reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact. Additionally, Storm Creek said, Lenzing modal is biodegradable, helping to reduce textile waste.
“Sustainability is the first thing we consider when developing new styles,” said Laura Smith, director of product and sustainability at Storm Creek. “It is critical to not only our own mission but our customers who are working with end-users to hit ESG goals of their own. We are really proud of this fabric. It’s a win-win for our customers, their customers and the environment.”
A WBENC-certified business, Storm Creek focuses on sustainability and charitable giving. The supplier, a member of 1% for the Planet and the Minnesota Keystone Program, has a mission of giving back, with a goal of donating $5 million to charity by 2030. Earlier this year, Storm Creek announced that it had joined sustainable textile certifier bluesign as a System Partner, which means its fabrics and products are held to the highest standards with a focus on reducing environmental impact. In addition, all of its factory partners are certified by the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production and Business Social Compliance Initiative programs.
