Distributor Puts Together Rockin’ Self-Promo

The classic-rock-themed gift boxes featured fun curated items that resonated with clients and prospects.

For its most recent annual self-promo campaign, Sky High Marketing (asi/328476) wanted to strike a rich chord with recipients.

Taking a cue from the classic rock tradition, the team spent about six months brainstorming, sourcing products, assembling and shipping an estimated 500 “Your Brand is a Band” gift boxes to top clients, plus 50 to prospects.

The self-promo gift boxes from Sky High Marketing (asi/328476) had a classic rock theme.

“We wanted to show our in-house printing and embroidery capabilities and how we have fun with merchandise,” says Konni Hibicke, vice president of marketing and business development. “The box reminds recipients that their clients are their biggest fans.”

Each custom amplifier-shaped box from BoxUp (asi/41320) contained a drumstick-shaped pen from WOWLine (asi/98360); guitar-shaped slap drink cooler from Top 40 supplier HPG (asi/61966); set of three guitar pics and record-shaped coaster from I Promotion Pro (asi/62098); and a “Grateful Dead”-inspired band T-shirt from Top 40 supplier SanMar (asi/84863) and bandanna from Innovation Line (asi/62660) that pay homage to two of Sky High’s locations in Wisconsin and Nevada.

The campaign was a smash hit: Since the boxes shipped in the spring, Sky High has fielded numerous calls for similar boxes, including queries from major clients like Wynn Las Vegas and Make-A-Wish America. Hibicke anticipates new business generated by the boxes to be between $75,000 and $100,000.

“It resonated with end-buyers because it was very thought through,” says Hibicke. “We’re having success with curated collections. We’re finding that when it’s well put together, it highlights our creativity, and it also reminds clients and prospects what we can offer them.”
