Born in Washington, MO, to the late Elmer and Lucille (née Barnhart), Heidmann graduated from Washington High School and received his business degree from St. Louis Community College. He married his wife, Mindy (née Livengood), in 1978 and raised a family of three children in his hometown.

Heidmann had a long career in promotional products sales, including more than two decades with Magnet LLC and The Magnet Group, based in Washington. He retired in 2016.

“Steve was a leader in our company for decades and an icon in the industry,” said Aaron Gunderson, senior vice president of The Magnet Group. “There are many people in our company who worked with Steve and still value him to this day. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve’s family and lifelong friends.”

Early on, Heidmann was a DJ, keyboard player for an area band and menswear model. He was a member of the Elks BPO Lodge 1559 in Washington, and enjoyed hunting, camping, trail rides, building bonfires and spending time with his family.

Heidmann is survived by his wife, Mindy; son Sean (Jamee) of Ballwin, MO, daughter Amy Shickler (Josiah) of Washington, MO, and daughter Casey Hart (Steve) of Fenton, MO; brothers Mike (Barbara) of Washington, Mark of Atlanta and Scott (Ken Petti) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Max, Maggie, Oliver, Sam and Cal; and many relatives and friends.

“He will forever be remembered and loved,” said the family in a statement. “We know he’s most certainly not lost; he’s just taking the scenic way to his new destination. Most importantly, we all hope he made it there in time to catch the news.”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 5, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. CT at John G’s Tap Room at 109 W. Main Street in Washington, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
