Disney Debuts New Rainbow Merch Collection To Support Pride Month
Part of the proceeds of sales from the branded merchandise will benefit an LGBTQ nonprofit.
Disney has launched a special collection of branded merchandise to show support for the LGBTQ community in celebration of Pride Month.
Held in June, Pride Month spotlights the LGBTQ civil rights movement, celebrates achievements and contributions of members of the community, and often involves events that range from the solemn to the carnivalesque.
Disney is donating 10% of the proceeds from the Rainbow Disney Collection to the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), a nonprofit that works to create safe and inclusive K-12 schools for LGBTQ youth. It’s the second year in a row that Disney has partnered with GLSEN – pronounced “glisten.”
In addition to the socks and plushie seen above, the Rainbow Collection includes a glittery travel tumbler, T-shirts, caps, buttons, keychains, a backpack, a tank top, Mickey and Minnie ears, jewelry and more. Rainbow coloring and similarly bright patterns feature in the line, a number of pieces of which bear a logo that is Mickey’s gloved hands shaped into a heart. Text on the tank top reads “Believe in Love.”
From a promotional products perspective, the Rainbow Disney Collection is an interesting example of how an organization can adapt and leverage it’s brand to support a cause.
Disney will be making the donations to GLSEN off Rainbow Collection sales that occur between now and June 30.
