Brampton Youth Design City-Themed Streetwear Basics

A Canadian city just got its own swag, thanks to a few ambitious high school students.

Brampton, a suburban city outside Toronto, is home to the Zero Gravity Co-op Program at LAB B, a co-working and business incubator space. Since 2015, the co-op has given area students the opportunity to explore potential post-secondary career options and develop professional skills in digital marketing, entrepreneurship and e-commerce; many have gone on to receive college degrees and start their own businesses.

In 2017, students designed, marketed and sold a hoodie with “Built in Brampton” screen printed on the front to promote their city and the co-op program.

Now, participating students have expanded the line of civic pride basics to soft cotton crew necks, long-sleeve shirts and hoodies, including the original Built in Brampton Classic Hoodies, with several different designs.

The styles are currently available on a Shopify-powered store at builtinbrampton.ca, and prices range from $30 to $50.

The Zero Gravity Co-op has become more publicly visible as a result of its work with Brampton’s youth. It's had more than 40 graduates over the past three years, and just received a $100,000 investment from the Greater Toronto Airport Authority to help with funding its programming, seminars and hands-on projects.
