Health Canada has issued an official recall for children’s doll and toy furniture sets. The sets, made in China and sold by Montreal-based Dollarama L.P., contain an elevated amount of phthalates, posing a possible chemical hazard. Health Canada has not yet received any incident reports related to the recalled toy set.

Research has found that phthalates, a plastic softener, may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in children if an object containing them is sucked or chewed for an extended period of time.

The MONTOY set includes a doll and 12 pieces of furniture. Product number 08-3048458 is printed on the upper right front of the packaging and number UPC 66788824057 is printed on the back.

An estimated 52,775 units were sold by Dollarama between October 16, 2017 and October 5, 2018.

“Consumers should take the recalled toys away from children and either dispose of them or return to the store to obtain a refund,” said Health Canada in the official recall statement. No receipt is required for returns.
