NJ Devils Go Seinfeld-Retro With Hilarious David Puddy Bobblehead

Puddy was a fictional superfan of the hockey club that appeared on the show. He’s become a part of Devils folklore.

“Let’s get it on!!!”

The greatest fictional superfan of all-time is about to be immortalized in the most appropriate way possible: He’s getting his own bobblehead.

David Puddy, a bit character that appeared on a 1995 episode of the megahit television show Seinfeld, was remarkable for his fanatical, face-painted devotion to his favorite team – the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League.

Played by Garden State native Patrick Warburton, Puddy has become part of the fan folklore for the team from Northern New Jersey. Clips from the episode in which Puddy roars maniacal support for the Devils while challenging rival fans of the New York Rangers – “Let’s get it on!!” – often play on the jumbo screens at the Devils Prudential Center arena in Newark, NJ. When the Devils travel for away games, hosting teams sometimes play Puddy scenes to entertain audiences.

And now, as part of a nostalgia-themed 1990s night at a Devils home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 19, the first 9,000 fans will receive a David Puddy bobblehead. Behold:

Currently languishing in last place in the Metropolitan Division, the Devils could use the inspirational kick-in-the-keister that Puddy’s enthusiasm can generate. Maybe 9,000 Puddy bobbles jiggling their face-painted heads in the stands will accomplish just that.

If for nothing else, the Puddy bobble is a great reminder of how much fun promotional products can be – and how they can help generate fan interest during a downtime for a team. In case you haven’t had enough Puddy, here’s Warburton reenacting the shtick at a Devils playoff game last year:
