Stormtech Launches 1:1 Initiative to Benefit At-Risk Youth

Vancouver, BC-based Stormtech Performance (asi/89869) has launched its 1:1 Initiative, a philanthropic program that benefits at-risk youth.

Under the new program, Stormtech will donate 1% of its global sales in the form of apparel to non-profits that offer outdoor-based education opportunities.

“The 1:1 Initiative is an exciting milestone for Stormtech,” said founder Blake Annable, in a statement. “We have supported local partners…in an informal capacity for quite a few years now. This expansion will help us reach even more youth to experience the joys of the outdoors while accessing quality education. We have an unwavering desire to make a positive impact, support those around us and help our communities thrive.”

Stormtech is introducing the 1:1 Initiative by working with two organizations in British Columbia. Take a Hike Foundation offers a full-time alternate education program for youth ages 15 to 18 that includes academics, therapy, outdoor learning and community service.

“Being able to provide clothing and gear to our youth is an integral part of our success,” said Sevan Kadian, program support coordinator for Take a Hike, in a statement. “We want to show them care, respect and commitment to their well-being. Partnering with Stormtech allows us to take our students on incredible journeys, where we can focus on learning and personal growth while providing high-quality gear that they feel comfortable in.”

In addition, the Street2Peak Project gives 15 at-risk youth the opportunity to train year-round for international expeditions. In recent years, they’ve taken participants to Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, Patagonia and the Southern Andes. This year’s trip will include exploration of the landscape of New Zealand and the Southern Cross constellation of stars in the Milky Way galaxy.

“Stormtech and Street2Peak have formed an amazing partnership,” said Trevor Stokes, a Street2Peak teacher, in a statement. “When Street2Peak was getting outfitted for our Kilimanjaro expedition, Stormtech was the first sponsor to step up and offer these kids the technical gear needed for such an adventure. Ever since then, Stormtech has provided any clothing items we’ve needed, from rain pants, to waterproof shells, to thermal hats and gloves. They treat our students like their most valued customers. For those in the know, if you don’t have the gear, you’re hooped. Stormtech has always had our backs.”

Participants must be registered non-profit charities and youth-based (21 years and under), offer outdoor adventure and education, and be located in Canada or the U.S.
