Does Oasis Reunion Tour Merch Have Takeaways for Promo Pros? Definitely Maybe
Replete with ‘90s nostalgia and retro sporty looks, the swag and how Oasis is promoting it provide valuable merch lessons industry distributors can use to drive business.
Key Takeaways
• Oasis Reunion Sparks Merch Boom: The Gallagher brothers have reunited for a 41-date tour, igniting massive excitement and demand for the band’s new branded merchandise.
• Soccer Style Meets ‘90s Nostalgia: Oasis’ collaboration with Adidas exudes vintage Euro-sporty fashion, tapping into retro trends perfect for modern promo campaigns.
• Experiential Retail: Special pop-up merch stores supporting the reunion tour reflect growing consumer appetite for real-life brand interactions and experiential marketing opportunities.
The Gallagher brothers have stopped looking back in anger. The result? What pop culture commentators are calling one of the greatest global music events of recent decades.
Is there incredible branded merchandise to enliven and augment this exciting cultural moment? It’s more than a definitely maybe. It’s a definite – a champagne supernova of swag fantastic-ness, at least if you’re a latter-day Gen Xer, Xennial or ‘90s enthusiast in terms of fashion sensibility.
If my tortured puns on song titles above didn’t already make it clear, I’m talking, of course, about the reunion of Oasis – the legendary Brit-pop band that helped define an entire genre of music and cultural era following their meteoric rise to fame in the 1990s.
Gallagher brothers Liam (singer) and Noel (chief songwriter, guitarist and sometimes vocalist) were the wildly talented and charismatic, but infamously combustible, pair that made Oasis tick. They’ve been at odds, to put it with British understatement, since falling out with each other in 2009. Oasis haven’t performed since. That’s changing this summer when a new 41-date tour kicks off in July in Wales.
In an age where downloads have replaced album sales, merch has become a primary driver of revenue for musical artists. And wonder(wall)fully, there’s a wealth of choice swag to support the Oasis reunion. So, what’s the story, morning glory, on it all for promo pros? Here are a few observations on the collection.
Steal the Soccer Fashion Aesthetic
Oasis has long been synonymous with wearing Adidas-branded gear – a nod to the band from England’s football (soccer) fandom, as the German sportswear maker was and is a fashion staple among the game’s supporters around the U.K. and Europe.
It makes sense then that Oasis teamed up with Adidas for a reunion tour merch collaboration, releasing a line of co-branded wearables that include soccer jerseys, T-shirts with a soccer aesthetic, track tops, coaches jackets, bucket hats and more. The British/European soccer fan fashion vibe permeates the collection – which carries the branding “The Band With The 3 Stripes” in reference to Adidas’ logo and Oasis’ frequent wearing of the brand.
Full disclosure: Being a guy who played some football (the kind you kick) and who drummed in bands not long after Oasis made it huge (I had a tad less success), I’m a massive fan of this collection.
Since the 90s the band with three stripes have made the adidas tracksuit their uniform.

Still, hopefully I’m seeing through my own bias enough to make what I think is a valid point: ‘90s nostalgia is in the air, and any merch collection that draws on the Euro-sporty, retro youth-chic look and product choice of this line has a chance to score major swag points with campaigns and promotions aimed at today’s younger audiences – and old farts like me smiling in memory mode.
End-buyers can include festivals, higher education buyers, bars/pubs, nightclubs and a range of small-business and corporate clients who may want something hip for their company stores or employee apparel. Definitely don’t discount the collared soccer jersey. The World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is only a year away, and we may start seeing more soccer themes from brands. A kit top like that would be just the right kind of unique item for merch initiatives tied to those.
Trust me when I say there’s an appetite for this Oasis-inspired aesthetic: Google searches for “Oasis fashion UK” have surged 180% in the last 30 days, The Guardian reports.
Don’t Forget About the Feet
Branded socks have been rising in popularity in both the North American and European promotional products markets.
“Athletic socks are definitely trending,” Rebecca Palomares, strategic account manager at Sock Club (asi/88072), shared with ASI Media earlier this year. “There [has been] high demand for promotional socks,” Ralf Uwe Schneider, CEO of German promo association Gesamtverband der Werbeartikel-Wirtschaft, told ASI Media in a recent interview.
Oasis and its merchandisers seem well aware of this.
The Oasis Double Stripe White Socks
The full online merch collection – which includes more than just the Adidas collab – features a pair of white socks with red and blue stripes at the top and the band’s logo on them. The socks are crew length – a look that’s at once vintage and also a spot-on trend given the sock-style preferences of Gen Zers and Gen Alphas.
Speaking of: That predilection for higher-rising crew socks among younger generational cohorts, as opposed to the ankle socks typically favored by millennials, could be one reason socks are in the ascendancy when it comes to popularity in promo. Quite simply, the crew lengths provide more real estate for visible branding. Brands – and Oasis – are clearly taking advantage. Are you and your customers?
Create or Support In-Person Experiences
The Guardian reports that Oasis is opening six special merchandise stores across the United Kingdom and Ireland to sell reunion tour branded merch. Items for sale include everything from T-shirts and bucket hats to onesies, cutlery sets, shot glasses, jigsaw puzzles and tote bags.
Now, most of your clients probably aren’t going to be so popular that their merch releases will warrant the setting up of special pop-up shops for limited-time sales – though by all means do that if you’re working with such headliners of the cultural zeitgeist. Still, the Oasis merch shops speak to a societal current that’s perhaps becoming more prominent in an increasingly digitalized world: the desire for pleasurable in-person, human experiences.

As such, I believe distributors that can develop the capability to provide experiential marketing solutions, supported by merch, or who partner with firms that specialize in experiential marketing and provide swag for their initiatives, have strong potential to grow a steady new revenue stream. An ancillary point to this could be that, if you work with a lot of local customers, you may want to set up a frequently updated showroom to display what you can do – so those clients can check it all out when they stop in.
Anyway, I’m going to cut this one off here and go buy some of the Adidas collab merch. I’m just glad that Sally and the rest of us didn’t have to wait any longer for an Oasis reunion – and this super sweet swag.
